“Paetongtarn Shinawatra” voted as the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.

 

Today in Bangkok on the 16 of August 2024 at 11.30 a.m, The National Assembly held a special meeting to consider and approve the next to be appointed Prime Minister in accordance to Article 159 in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand.

 

Mr.Sorawong Thianthong (Pheu Thai Party), a member of the House of Representatives – Sa Kaeo Province, nominated Ms.Paetongtarn Shinawatra along with 291 endorsements and all without nominating any other person for candidacy.

At 12.15 p.m., the council voted in favor of  Ms.Paetongtarn Shinawatra with 319 votes. There were 145 votes against and 27 abstentions, which is considered more than half of the total number of the 493 members, resulting in her being elected as Prime Minister.  She is now the 31st Prime Minister and also the second female prime minister in the history of Thailand. At 37 years of age, she is also the youngest leader in the history of the nation.
